Lively Lane is a Certified Habitat Steward🐞🌻🐦
From Energy Star to Indoor Air Plus to Zero Energy Ready Homes (ZERH), Lively Lane is proud to offer homes that are certified a cut above other homes on the market. And now, as of summer 2026, we are proud to add one more certification to the mix for the neighborhood as a whole: Lively Lane is now an officially approved site for The City of San Marcos’s Certified Habitat Stewardship Program (CHSP)!
Lively Lane is one of a kind as the first and only pocket neighborhood to have been approved for the designation. In the application, our Lively Lane landscape board was able to highlight various aspects of the site that make it unique, including:
Soil and Water Conservation: Combined use of drip irrigation, mulch, conserved water use through drought tolerant native plants, and xeriscape
Control of exotic species: Combined use of native plants, limiting non-native plants, and practice of integrated pest management
Organic practices: Elimination of chemical pesticides / herbicides / fertilizers
Support for wildlife: Provision of seed-bearing bird-friendly plants and nectar / pollen-bearing pollinator-friendly plants; provision of water / birdbath; provision of brush and nesting boxes, evergreen trees, meadow / prairie area, shrub areas, and caterpillar host plants for cover and raising young
Stormwater Retention: Combined use of berms, swales, prairie areas, permeable pavers, and biofiltration ponds
“[The purpose of the CHSP is] to preserve and encourage native habitats for plants and wildlife; boost populations of monarch butterflies, birds, and pollinators; and help manage stormwater run-off.”
As a testament to this designation, see below for a small sampling of the more than 240 (and counting!) wonderous species of flora and fauna that have been documented within the community on iNaturalist over the past few seasons…
